My Dad sets his alarm for 4 am during hunting season. Especially opening day. Noah's Dad sets his alarm for 4 am to study the scriptures. What are you willing to get up that early for?
Saturday we met at 4:30 to repeat last week. A 12 mile route to the gym, and then finish on the treadmills. Complete with recovery chocolate milk at the end. I thought about that chocolate milk all week- and had to repeat the experience!
I was very impressed with our friend Karen, who has been getting up so early with us to run- even though she is not registered for a marathon or any event. This isnt training for her, its a 4 am social opportunity! Im very glad she has been willing- she is a fun part of the group. She said 12 miles was good enough for her, so she stashed clothes in my car and took the opportunity to shower and do her hair while we finished our mileage. Weve decided the best thing about our new gym is the shower facility.
I didnt check how many calories I burned on the run saturday- maybe around 1800? Let me tell you, I MORE than replaced those 1800 calories throughout the day. Those long runs make me SO hungry! I eat all day on saturdays. How is a runner supposed to lose a pound or two? There's no way. Is this different for anyone else? Do any of you find that marathon training is a good weight loss method? If so, Im jealous.
Thanks for all the entries...its fun to get on the blog and see like 4 new entries to read! I love hearing about everyone's training programs!

Good for Karen! Lindy, I hardly think you need to worry about the calories! I'm sure you guys are training more than enough for you to worry about it! I did mark my weight before last Saturday so I will know if my training gets me anywhere. ;) I'll let you guys know.
ReplyDeleteI did 20 on Sat. and I was so starving and for breafast I had leftover Korean BBQ! Needless to say when I stood on the scale next day I gained 2 lb! I thought I would lose some weight running so much! So wrong!
ReplyDeleteKorean BBQ sounds delicious - especially after 20 miles! My appetite definitely increases after I do a long run and I don't feel the least bit guilty eating whatever I please after. :)
ReplyDeleteYoshimi, Are you going to get 3 20 milers in before the marathon? Or are you going up to 22? What is your plan like? And where did you do your 20 miles? Local? Give us the details! (o:
ReplyDeleteIm glad you had Korean BBQ available to you saturday morning!
First of all, I do not love running when the alarm goes off at 4:00 or 4:30 or 5:00 or 5:30. I don't mind it so much if the alarm goes off any time after 6:00. I do love it after the run, though. Secondly, I thought I might be close to the 140 lb range after training for a marathon but now realize that I should have registered in the "well-over-140-lb" category for St. George. Training for a marathon is not a good weight loss method for me. Oddly enough, when I don't run as much, my weight goes down ... but my calves are not as shapely.
ReplyDeleteLindy, I just did around the neigborhood with one friend for 7 and I did about 1 on hill (well more like a slope) at the golf course and met up with another friend and did Islands and Pre. Hall's neighborhood and went back to my neighborhood and finished. I don't care where I run as long as I have somebody to talk to. My plan is to do 20 twice and one 22.
ReplyDeleteThis week is my cut back, so I will only do 8 or so.
