How funny that Hannah just posted about Chris McDougall! I literally just came out to the blog to share an article with all of you that I read today. Quite an interesting take on running barefoot. To my surprise the top blog post was about the very same guy that the article is about. Well, Hannah, great minds do think alike! I think I might pick up that book to check out what he has to say. I’m definitely not going to start running barefoot in our AZ summer – I’m thinking 3rd degree burns or melted feet doesn’t sound too appealing. Anyways, here is the article! Hope everyone is well…I know it has been awhile since I’ve blogged. I have a stack of stories I’ve been holding back! ;)

Bridge,
ReplyDeleteSo today I tried again to run as he suggests, which is basically sprint style: on the balls of your feet, arms pumping, knees bent high and kicking back, spine straight, head slightly bent to barely see toes. I tried this on Saturday and my calves were SOOOO sore. But that's because I don't use my calves as much when thumping along on my heels. Today my calf muscles were not really sore and my groin was not pained at all, really. It was amazing to me that the arm pumping really did help me speed up! Amazing. Marcie, I suggest trying this for the plantar faciitis (right???). It keeps your weight off the heels right over the arch where it belongs. The added benefit is that I might finally get those awesome calf muscles I envy in many runners! :)
I had to laugh reading your comment Hannah, just because my little girls were analyzing their own running form a few weeks ago- "Mom, how come if I bend my elbows allot and pump my arms, I get sooo much faster?" Is this a rhetorical question, or do they really expect me to have a good answer? (o:
