We waited until about 11:00am for it to warm up before we started off on our public transit journey from Nob Hill to the bridge. Caught a bus down to the marina and thought about catching a cab to the bridge from there, but we decided to enjoy our nice long walk of about 3 miles to the bridge along the water together. We got to the trail with the steps up to the bridge and Tim sent me on my way. The bridge is about 1.7 miles long so I went out and back then back toward the middle again to get me over 4 miles. A short run but purely for enjoyment. Tim hung out on the bridge waiting for me to come back and take some pictures.
The only down sides were the noise of the cars passing and the fact that it took some patience to get through the crowds of tourists at each end of the bridge. The holiday made it quite a popular spot to visit, so I just took my time getting through and enjoyed the view of the city, Alcatraz, and the passing ships and boats. I think I'll try it again if we go on a weekend that isn't quite so busy. All in all, it was a beautiful run along a legendary path and a great trip! Maybe Bay to Breakers next year! We were a weekend too late for it this time around.
How fun Bridge! I love exploring new places in a running capacity! And how fun to get to spend time with Tim in a cool city.
ReplyDeleteFor Scott Dagny's account of Bay to Breakers, check out his blog...Marcie has a link to it on the side. "A trail runner's blog". He has pictures. It looks like your Ragnar Relay prepared you for the kind of scenery you'll see at Bay to Breakers- remember Chasin' Cheeks? I know you do!
Thanks, Lind! I'll have to check it out! Hey if you get the chance to blog about your experience in NM I think it would be great to hear. I know it is not exactly running specific, but I also know that it was quite a physical challege especially when the men were pulled away. I think we all would love to hear more about it!
ReplyDeleteBridge, those are some awesome pictures - thanks for sharing! The Nike women's marathon is in San Francisco - that is on my list of marathons I would love to run. Were you there for work or fun?
ReplyDeleteCute title! And great pictures! Took me back to my growing up years. I grew up in Modesto, CA and took lots of trips to SF and even walked the Golden Gate Bridge, running it sounds like a fun goal someday! The John Muir Trail would be an awesome run as well.
ReplyDeleteThat Nike Women's Marathon is something...I would guess that it would be quite a bit of hills but I haven't seen the elevation maps. Might be quite the challenge!
ReplyDeleteWe were out there for fun visiting one of Tim's good friends. Tim went to culinary school out there and lived/worked there for many years. My dad also works most of the time out of Oakland and has an apt over there for when he isn't here at home. I don't really qualify as a tourist out there anymore. ;)
Bryn, Speaking of Muir...we tried heading to Muir Woods for a hike that Saturday but the traffic was unbelievable! We opted to head up near San Rafael and went to the China Camp State Park. We did the Shoreline hike there and stopped to picnic at our turnaround with our fresh smoked fish, bread, strawberries and cheese that we picked up at the farmers market that morning! Mmm, good...AND a beautiful hike! Lots of bikers on the trail - polite ones too. I like when bikers not only yell out "On your left!" but they will also say "2 more" or "4 more" when they are traveling in groups. ;)
