Not all my runs leave me feeling more energetic and rejuvenated. In fact, today's run got the best of me. I did my long this morning and as I started on the trail my stomach wasn't feeling so great but I thought it would eventually go away once I got going and into my rhythm. It didn't. I probably should have stopped and used the restroom but I detest public restrooms - ew! I kept running. Stomach's churning. About 70 minutes into the run, I knew I couldn't put it off any longer so I stopped at one of the restrooms and it was locked. Almost started crying. Gritted my teeth and kept running. I knew there was another bathroom about a mile away so I pushed the pace and made it to the next restroom. Never happier to see a germy public restroom.
The running and trying to stifle the stomach pains drained me. I came home lifeless and it was only 8:10 in the morning. I knew I'd have to dig deep to muster up some energy to chase after my three boys for the rest of the day. Tough run. Hope tomorrow's (shorter) run is better.

Lol! Okay, sorry, not to make light of your urgent bathroom situation. Im only laughing because just a few runs ago, we were talking about poo and running- and someone was saying "Who will be the first to Blog about poo and running?"
ReplyDeleteMarcie- you get that one. Its funny that being a runner forces me to think about my poop allot more than the average person would. I thought about it ALLOT before the marathon. How could I avoid needing to poo that morning? So if anyone has good pre-race meal suggestions: Dont hold back! Share!
I have to agree that if there is one thing that makes a bad run- its a poo in pending!
I wonder if reading this post last week jinxed me! This morning was my tough run. I had sore knees (it's time for new shoes), a runny nose and scratchy throat(I hope it's just allergies), a nyquil hangover, my period, and about half way through I realized I needed to go to the bathroom! So I cut my 8 miles to 4 and shuffled home alone.
ReplyDeleteAm I glad I went? Well, I'm glad I didn't leave my friends waiting for me on the street corner but I think I would have been better off in bed this morning. Hopefully Thursday will be better, but I'm not running again till I get my new shoes! Thanks to Lisa, Lindy, and Karen for putting up with me this morning - it was a tough one.
Bathroom issues are the worst!
ReplyDeleteYou deserve a medal for gritting through this run!
I agree! What would that medal design look like??? LOL Put Noah on that one - I'm sure he'll come up with something good. In all seriousness you could try taking acidophilus. Another thing you can try would be a glass of milk when you wake up to get things moving if dairy has any affect on you.
ReplyDeleteSorry Cynthia! You did great to get 4 miles in. If I had all those things working against me I would have stayed in bed :)
